La Perruqueis is a web based project in which I use Michelle de Certeau’s theory of the same name to explore the possibilities of art making in the workplace. This piece takes the form of a website that is built entirely while working on the clock for a large corporation. De Certeau described how workers used their employer’s resources to complete creative tasks for themselves--without the knowledge of their managers--as a small token of resistance. La Perruque is an important way of maintaining ones individuality and dignity in what is often an alienating and oppressive situation. My work is made quickly with the stock photos, videos, software, and hardware that I can muster without anyone noticing. It is a small yet thrilling gesture for me to maintain my identity as an artist in a corporate homogenizing landscape.
