The Dream Songs

Digital video montage, 14 min, 2010

The Dream Songs (2010) is a narrative mediation on grief, loss, and mourning made from found footage gathered from videos posted by amateur videographers and bloggers. This work creates relationships between people who are seeking to cope with their pain by communicating and connecting with others online as well with unrelated footage found through their YouTube networks. The Dream Songs shows how contemporary technologies are used to express the most fundamental emotions and how individuals answer their need to create and communicate with the tools around them. Based on elegiac poetic tradition, this work is made up of different sections that examine aspects of grief such as the relationship between despair and hope, and the struggle of communicating in emotionally difficult moments.
